What ever happened to July?

…and here we are in August, boy that month flew by. I had to re-read the previous post to see what I covered. There’s been a lot going on and with my memory maybe it’s best to work backwards as the most recent thing seems to be the freshest. First in first out right?

So, this week has been all about unpacking in the new home. Dusting off all boxes from the transatlantic trip from over a year ago. Unwrapping each parcel has been a thrill and disappointment in equal measures. What’s in this package? How exciting! Oh, it’s a pack of biros… And so on.

There’s a philosophy that if you haven’t missed it in over a year what’s the purpose of keeping it around? Just chuck it. The wife would crucify me if I followed that though!

Anyhow, with the additional rooms in the new home it has meant making a couple of trips to furniture stores over the last two weekends, and as of right now we are awaiting delivery of a couple of sofas, beds, and mattresses. I initially thought we were done after that. But after sitting down with the missus to make a more complete list of required furnishings I now realise it was just the tip of the iceberg.

Going back further, an important date was the 19th of July — when we closed on our new home, the equivalent of exchanging in the UK. Our rental continued until the 14th of August, and this overlap meant we could take a relaxed approach to moving. Not too relaxed though — the rental property was emptied as of the 1st of August.

The painters came in last Friday and finished the second coat on the Monday. The house feels very different with the more bold colours (blue, red, green) having been brightened up. Now the kids have a beautiful clean canvas to smear their grubby hands all over.

To finish up, I signed up for both Disney’s half marathon and full marathon on a whim one morning. Crazy. Once the adrenaline had settled and I reflected on how I was going to get in shape for it I decided to order a Peloton. It arrived 4 days later — friends had told me to expect a 3-4 month wait time.
