Luke, I am your father...

Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers out there! My kids enjoyed waking me up this morning to hand me their cards — they also came bearing muffins. A nice wake up. We had a plan to make our way to the store early to pick up a cooler for an upcoming road trip and stock up on some essentials. As a treat we popped into Dunkin’ Donuts for a dozen sugary snacks.

We also got around to watching Luca on Disney+. This had been pushed back from the usual Friday Night Family movie session due to bad behaviour, then delayed once more after a couple of outbursts during a trip to Disney Springs on Saturday.

We had lunch at the Polite Pig. I fancied some BBQ and this place didn’t disappoint. There was a queue, but fairly quick considering the size, and once you’ve ordered you get full service at your table — a relief with 4 grumpy kids in tow.

We walked around for a bit to digest and grabbed some ice cream before heading home. Each kid lost their minds at least once — they did well to coordinate between themselves to make sure they didn’t all go nuts at the same time. Why rip off the bandage in one quick go when you can do it nice and slow? I’m looking forward to going out as a family when everyone is civil. The hope is alive.

Technology wise, I’ll be dusting off the Power Automate skillset. My last run in with this software involved creating a holiday calendar for my team a couple of years ago — this time the project is a little more involved. Scanning lists, sending emails, attaching documents, making sure the right person gets the right information. But Baz, you might say, what happened with all the K2 chat from last week? It turned out my issues were the result of a bona fide bug in the software.

A quick house update — earlier in the week we met the current owners and they were super nice. There was a lot more tech going on than I was aware of: automated sprinklers, self-heating pools, light switches running on power lines, security cameras recording via FTP, full Sonos system and so on. They also gave us the contact details for the company that painted the home. I was surprised to find out they painted the whole home in one day. Insane. That couldn’t have been cheap — I’m interested to see what sort of quotes they come back with.

Oh and finally — the speed cube. Here are a couple of videos I uploaded to YouTube at either end of the week. I’m pleased with the improvement. The friend who introduced me to speed cubes is able to solve in under a minute, so I guess that’s my goal. I’ve told the kids that whenever they see the cube solved on my desk they’re more than welcome to scramble it. You should’ve seen their eyes light up. It seemed to be working well — although today the cube has been untouched so I guess they’ve gotten bored.

Righty, I’m off to enjoy the rest of my Father’s Day! See you next week.

Rowing chart — right now I’m not sure what this chart is telling me. I think I’m more impressed that I’ve stuck it out for so long!

Words per minute — a new personal best. Only practiced twice this week
